There are so many people that have shown up at every exhibition (or most), have increased my visibility, who've volunteered at shows in order to experience the work, who's friendship was sparked by seeing my art, vision, performances, and thought patterns. Some of these folks have also been unable to purchase final works (let's face it, most pro photographers can't afford our OWN work for a time). To these folks, I'm deeply grateful for you seeing me. Ok, I'm not starving [this month]. But, that's only because I grow food & have a great community that also keeps me fed. This one's for the folks who champion art activism, who know that many Black artists were educators & activists before #artivism became a hashtag, who understand that artists create culture and move movement work, and who see that Black women in the arts have significantly less reach and clout simply due to a slew of intersecting issues that limit resources and access to better quality materials for creating. This $15 tier is almost like paying your monthly Spotify or Tidal subscription, only you're putting the money directly in the hands of an independent artist so she can create more quality work. I've been doing one big-deal exhibition per year since about 2007ish. Except that one year I was exploring performance art/dance and that year I had a bad car accident. The reality is that I intend to grow this trend and continue doing quality shows whether or not grants or funding happen beforehand. I tend to make things work. Sometimes that includes picking up more gigs, sleeping less, building things on my own, maxing credit cards, etc, etc, etc. However, knowing that some of the cost of creation is being alleviated because there are people committed to the process lifts a huge burden and greatly reduces me falling into a pit of artistic debt and general fatigue. This $30 tier is for those who have a little more, like to see artists thrive, and love to invest in content and culture creators.  Think of it as your really cheap daily coffee that gives more over time rather than leaving you with a caffeine crash.
