Watershed Hong Kong is a Hong Kong-based non-profit organization dedicated to exploring pivotal moments in the city's history, particularly the 1941 Battle of Hong Kong. Their work fosters civic awareness and preserves historical memory through diverse initiatives including guided tours, volunteer programs, World War II reenactments, film consultations, and school exhibitions. Inspired by similar UK commemorations, Watershed Hong Kong's 'Living Monuments' event in 2016, marking the 75th anniversary of the battle, garnered significant local and international media attention. This project involved 30 volunteers recreating the uniforms and experiences of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps. Since its launch in August 2020, the organization has grown to over 234 members, with 32 supporting their work through paid memberships, generating an estimated monthly income between $170 and $680. Watershed Hong Kong stands apart by focusing on a specific historical period within Hong Kong, creating a unique niche combining historical preservation, community engagement, and civic education.
