Tessaku

Tessaku, meaning 'iron fence' in Japanese, is a magazine project inspired by the short-lived publication of the same name created by Japanese Americans imprisoned in Tule Lake during World War II. The project aims to preserve and share stories from this difficult period in American history through creative writing and historical research. With 22 members, including 19 paid supporters, Tessaku has built a community around this important topic, generating an estimated $181 in monthly earnings. The project's unique focus on the Japanese American incarceration experience distinguishes it within the magazine category, offering a platform for exploring a crucial but often overlooked chapter of American history.
